Runnin' Bulldogs Fall To UNC Wilmington, 4-0, Sunday Afternoon

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team fell to host UNC Wilmington by a 4-0 score Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational.
UNC Wilmington (2-3-0) got on the board first, when sophomore forward Stephanie Rose put a shot into the lower right corner of the goal past GWU junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne in the 26th minute of play, assisted by sophomore forward Sara Kneeland. During the next minute of play, Kneeland was able to find the back of the net, with the assist being credited to both Rose and junior midfielder Erin Pardini.
Gardner-Webb (2-2-1) had a pair of shots on goal in the first half, both by junior forward Dawn Rollyson, yet none were able to find their way past UNCW junior goalkeeper Chandler Follett.
The Seahawks scored once again in the 57th minute of play when sophomore midfielder Amanda Holmes sent a shot into the lower right corner of the goal from 10 yards away. Senior defender Megan Novak was credited with the assist.
During the 61st minute, the Runnin' Bulldogs made a swich in goal, replacing Hearne with freshman Erika Lenns. UNCW tested her right away, sending two shots on goal within her first six minutes in goal, yet the Raleigh, N.C. native prevented each from finding the back of the net.
Novak scored the final goal of the match for UNCW in the 83rd minute. Rose, earning her fourth point of the match, assisted the goal.
Junior defender Stephanie Benshoof produced the lone shot on goal in the second half for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 82nd minute of play, yet Hunter prevented it from finding the back of the net.
Gardner-Webb will return to action Friday afternoon as they host Chattanooga as part of the Under Armour Border Classic. The match is set to begin at approximately 7:00 PM, following the match between USC Upstate and Morehead State at 5:00 PM. Both matches will take place at Greene-Harbison Field
