
Men's Tennis Adds Two Additional Student-Athletes For Upcoming Season

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team have signed two additional student-athletes to compete in the forthcoming season.
GWU has added Ural Ates and Aaron Baker to the roster for the 2010-11 season, in addition to John Devose and Blake Vail, who signed to play for the Runnin' Bulldogs early in the summer.
Ates, a freshman from Istanbul, Turkey, comes to Gardner-Webb with extensive international experience. He has played for the Turkish national team and has been ranked as high as 327 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Ates has also been successful in the classroom, finishing second in his class at the Kadikoy Goksen Aksam High School.
Baker, a freshman from Kennesaw, Ga., joins the Runnin' Bulldogs after being ranked fifth in the state of Georgia among 18-year olds. Baker was coached at the Elite Tennis Academy by Steve Pace, who was Gardner-Webb head coach Mike Griffith's doubles partner at Anderson College. Baker graduated from North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team's fall season begins this weekend as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the UNC Greensboro Fall Tournament. The tournament runs from Friday, September 10th to Sunday, September 12th.
