Runnin' Bulldogs Set To Host Under Armour Border Classic This Weekend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team is set to host the Under Armour Border Classic this weekend, hosting Chattanooga, Morehead State, and USC Upstate.
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 2-2-1 record after losing both matches this past weekend in Wilmington, N.C. as part of the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. Friday evening, GWU faced Elon, with the Phoenix taking the 2-1 win after scoring during the second overtime period. Sunday afternoon, the Runnin' Bulldogs took on tournament host UNC Wilmington, and fell by a 4-0 score.
This Friday, the Runnin' Bulldogs host Chattanooga, who enters the match with a 1-4 record following a 2-1 loss in overtime to Alabama this past Sunday. Last season, the two programs squared off against each other for the first time in the Border Classic, with Chattanooga taking the 1-0 win in double overtime.
Sunday afternoon, Gardner-Webb will face off against Morehead State, who enters the weekend with a record of 2-4 following a 3-1 loss to Wright State on Sunday afternoon. The last time the two teams met was during the 2001 season when the Runnin' Bulldogs took the victory by a 4-0 score. The all-time series between the two teams currently stands at 1-1.
USC Upstate will also be a part of the Border Classic this weekend. The Spartans enter the week with an 0-4-1 record following a 1-0 loss to Wofford this past Sunday. Friday evening, Upstate will face Morehead State at 5:00 PM and will take on Chattanooga at 1:00 PM on Sunday afternoon.
