GWU Volleyball to Host Round Three of the 'Battle of the Bulldogs' on Friday Night

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Friday night, in the two teams' third match up of the season. Round Three of the "Battle of the Bulldogs" is set for 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb (5-14, 1-4 Big South) is coming off a weekend in which the Runnin' Bulldogs split two home matches in conference play against Winthrop and Presbyterian College.
Last Friday night, GWU defeated the Lady Eagles of Winthrop, 3-1, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs only their second win in 16 tries against the Lady Eagles since 2000-01. The win also snapped GWU's conference losing streak at 19, as the win moved the Runnin' Bulldogs to 1-3 in conference play on the year.
However, on Saturday afternoon, the Runnin' Bulldogs, who were 3-0 at home on the year, suffered their first home loss of the season in a 3-1 loss to Presbyterian College.
GWU's five overall wins, is more than the Runnin' Bulldogs had all of last season, proving that the team has improved from one year ago.
Friday night's match will be a tough bout for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as GWU is 0-2 versus the Asheville Bulldogs already this season, with both losses coming in five-set thrillers.
In fact, since 2000-01, GWU is only 2-10 against the Asheville Bulldogs with their last victory over Asheville coming back in 2006.
Asheville (10-8, 3-2 Big South) will look to complete the season sweep of the Runnin' Bulldogs and push their winning streak over GWU to nine straight matches.
The Bulldogs, whose wins over GWU came at South Carolina and at Asheville, are only 3-4 in true road matches thus far this season.
