October 13, 2011 | Women's Golf
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the second consecutive week, a Gardner-Webb junior was named the Choice Hotels Big South Women's Golfer of the Week, as this week Sammy Vass received the weekly conference honor for events played Oct. 6-12, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Vass turned in her best performance of the fall season, as she tied for second-place at the Winthrop Intercollegiate (par 72, 6,007 yards) with a 6-over par 150 (72-78). Her 72, even par, on Monday in the first round was a career-best round, while her runner-up finish is her highest placing during her time at Gardner-Webb. Vass helped Gardner-Webb win the event by five strokes to claim its first team tournament title of the season.
Vass is the third Runnin' Bulldog lady golfer to receive this award this season, joining fellow juniors Lauren Smith and Meghan Allum on the list of weekly award winners.
Gardner-Webb will return to the links on October 17-18, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Wendy's Intercollegiate hosted by Charleston Southern University.
