
A Trio of GWU Wrestlers Receive Preseason National and Regional Recognition

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb redshirt-junior grapplers Alex Medved, Travis Porter and Ryan Medved are all receiving both national and regional preseason attention heading into the upcoming 2011-12 wrestling season.
Alex Medved, who was the East Regional Champion and an NCAA Qualifier last season at the 157-pound weight class, is ranked in two different national rankings and one regional rankings poll. He is ranked No. 18 overall at the 157 weight class by the Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine's 2011-12 Preseason Tournament Power Index rankings and comes in at No. 20 overall at 157 in the Amateur Wrestling News NCAA Division I Preseason Rankings.
The redshirt-junior is also ranked No. 14 overall in the Atlantic Region by Wrestlingreport.com.
Like Alex Medved, Porter was also ranked nationally in two publications and also received regional recognition by Wrestlingreport.com. Porter is ranked at No. 23 overall at 197 on the DICollegewrestling.net Division I rankings list and received honorable mention recognition at 197 by Wrestling USA Magazine.
Porter also received honorable mention recognition in the Wrestlingreport.com Atlantic Region Rankings at the 197-pound weight class.
Not to be overlooked, Ryan Medved, who like his brother Alex and Porter is a returning East Regional Champion and NCAA Qualifier from a year ago, also received regional honorable mention honors at 149-pounds by Wrestlingreport.com.
The Gardner-Webb wrestling team will open up its 2011-12 season at home, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m. on November 2nd.
