
Oprea Wins Flight, GWU Impresses at Davidson Invitational on Saturday

Davidson, N.C. - Senior Ioana Oprea won her flight and the Runnin' Bulldogs picked up 12 match victories at the Davidson Invitational on Saturday.
Oprea, a senior from Bucharest, Romania, defeated Wofford's Guinn Garcia 7-6, 6-3 and UNCC's Lisa Grosselius 3-6, 6-1 (10-6) before dropping a match to Davidson's Nisha Crouser. Oprea was the only player in her Flight 2 to gain win two matches, and was awarded the flight victory.
Junior Erica White also picked up two wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs. White knocked off Wofford's Sarah Evans in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, then disposed of UNCC's Andrea Rivera 6-1, 6-3 prior to falling to Davidson's Brites Moniz-Soares in a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3 affair.
Also picking up match wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday were sophomore Jenny Lunde, junior Ronia Hutterli, and senior Tavenner Black. Lunde battled to defeat Katharine Dicconson (Davidson) 6-2, 4-6 (10-7). Hutterli knocked off Wofford's Audrey Coventry 6-1, 6-3, and Black defeated Blake Nickles (Davidson) 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play, the tandem of White/Hutterli won twice for Gardner-Webb, knocking off Moniz-Soares/Dicconson (Davidson) 8-5 and Paulson/Lindqvist (Wofford) 8-5. Also winning in doubles action was the duo of Lunde/Oprea, who defeated Wofford's tandem of Garcia/Przystawski 8-6.
GWU will next prepare for NCAA Regional Championships, set to take place in Chapel Hill N.C.
