Charleston, S.C. - Gardner-Webb took to the road this weekend to compete in its final tournament of the fall season, hitting the courts at the College of Charleston Invitation.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were one of four teams competing at the tournament, along with host College of Charleston, Appalachian State, and UNC Charlotte.
Junior Matthew Parker recorded a match victory in singles action for the Runnin' Bulldogs, knocking off Charleston's Chris Toussaint in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Brendan Dempsey also got a win for GWU, taking a 6-4, 6-3 match over Billy Kenny (Charleston). Dempsey has enjoyed a successful fall season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, having won three singles matches as a freshman.
Gardner-Webb also enjoyed a win in doubles action, as Parker joined with freshman Ernest Alberch to knock off the duo of Roberts, Toussaint (Charleston) 8-3 to take the match.
The tournament concludes Gardner-Webb's fall schedule, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will next turn their attention to preparing for a new slate of matches in the spring. GWU opens spring competition against the ACC's NC State in Raleigh, N.C. on January 14.
