October 03, 2011 | Men's Soccer
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will play their 11th straight road match on Wednesday night at Presbyterian College, before returning home for the first time since August 28th to host the Liberty Flames on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Greene-Harbison Field.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are on a four-match losing streak, as head coach Tony Setzer's squad has been outscored 12-3 over that stretch.
After suffering a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Clemson and a 3-1 loss at Campbell last week, the Runnin' Bulldogs are still searching for their first true road match victory and their first Big South Conference win of the season.
While the Runnin' Bulldogs have had seven different players score this season and seven different players tally an assist on the year as well, the GWU offense has been inconsistent all season long, hitting another drought with only three total goals over their last four matches.
GWU will wrap up their 11-match road trip on Wednesday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on the Presbyterian College Blue Hose at 7 p.m. in Clinton, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who are 7-11-1 all-time versus PC, have won the last three meetings between these two teams on the pitch, including a 3-0 shutout win over the Blue Hose last season.
The Blue Hose are 1-8 overall on the season, yet is coming off a 3-1 win over VMI last Saturday in their conference opener.
On Saturday afternoon, Gardner-Webb will finally return home to host the Liberty Flames at 4 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-0 at home thus far this season with their lone win and match coming back on August 28th versus Brevard in the season opener.
While GWU is only 3-8-1 all-time versus Liberty, the Runnin' Bulldogs have had recent success against the Flames having won the last two match ups between these two teams, including upending Liberty 2-0 in Lynchburg, Va. last season.
Liberty enters play this week at 6-2 overall and 1-1 in Big South play. The Flames, who have been ranked in the NSCAA South Region Poll this season, is coming off a 3-1 loss at No. 24 Coastal Carolina last Sunday afternoon and will look to bounce back with a road win on Saturday at GWU.
The Flames are 3-2 on the road this season, which includes wins at No. 10 Virginia and at Big South Preseason favorite High Point.
Wednesday nigh'ts match is scheduled to be video streamed live by the Big South Network, presented by State Farm, and can be accessed by going to www.bigsouthsports.com.
