Runnin' Bulldogs Tip-Off 2011-12 Preseason Practice
October 03, 2011 | Women's Basketball
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The 2011-12 Gardner-Webb women's basketball team held its first official practice of the season Monday night inside Paul Porter Arena on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
With six freshmen and seven total newcomers on this year's roster, head coach Rick Reeves and his staff will be focusing on teaching both offensive and defensive principles for most of the preseason.
"I can't wait to get started and it's exciting," commented Coach Reeves. "We got some nice young players, but we will have to do a lot of teaching. I enjoy the practices; I enjoy the games, and I look forward to this so much every year that it's hard for me to contain my excitement."
Despite beginning the season as the defending Big South Women's Basketball Champions, the Runnin' Bulldogs return only one starter from last year's championship team in senior Brianna Dillard and only four total student-athletes in Dillard, senior Breynna Winkler, sophomore Catrina Green and sophomore Jasmine Dale that have played significant minutes on the court for GWU.
Gardner-Webb will open up its 2011-12 slate with a non-conference match up with North Carolina on Saturday, November 12th, at 1 p.m. in Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs first home game is slated for Tuesday night, November 15th, as GWU will host Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
