October 30, 2011 | Men's Soccer
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will look to wrap up their 2011 regular season slate on Wednesday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host the Winthrop Eagles on Senior Night at 7 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Prior to the start of the match, the Runnin' Bulldogs will recognize their 2011 seniors - Eric Asanin-Miroux, Julian Morris, Kevin Nolan and Richie Wall.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who are coming off a 0-0 double-overtime scoreless draw last week at Radford, are 8-6-3 overall and 5-2-1 in Big South play this season as GWU heads into their regular season finale.
Gardner-Webb is unbeaten in their last six matches (5-0-1) and is a perfect 4-0 at home thus far this season. In fact, the Runnin' Bulldogs finished the month of October at 5-1-1 and will look to carry that momentum over into the month of November. Over their last six matches, GWU has outscored their opponents 10-3 and have not allowed their opponent to score in their last three matches.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are looking for a win to not only finish the season on a high note, but also to assure themselves a top-four seed or higher in the upcoming 2011 Big South Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
However, it will not be an easy task, as Gardner-Webb is only 2-11-2 versus the Winthrop Eagles all-time in men's soccer action.
These two teams met last season in the first round of the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer Championship Tournament, as GWU blanked Winthrop 2-0 to end the Eagles' season.
The Winthrop Eagles are 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play heading into action this week.
The Eagles are coming off a very tough 6-0 loss at home to #13 Coastal Carolina and are fighting to assure themselves a spot in the upcoming 2011 Big South Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Eagles, who have two matches remaining in conference play, currently sit in sixth-place in the regular season standings, a half a game ahead of High Point.
Live stats will be available at www.gwusports.com. The match is slated to be video streamed live by the Big South Network, presented by State Farm, and can be accessed by going to www.bigsouthsports.com.
