Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team suffered its first dual match loss of the season on Friday night, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers fell to Chattanooga, 40-3, in GWU's Southern Conference Opener in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Gardner-Webb started the match off on the right track, as at 125-pounds, redshirt-senior Michael Slaughter earned a hard-fought 12-9 decision over Daniel Gallagher of Chattanooga to give the Runnin' Bulldogs an early 3-0 match lead.

However, that would be the only win for Gardner-Webb on the night, as the Mocs swept the final nine bouts in the win.

At 157, redshirt-junior Alex Medved battled Daniel Waddell for all three periods before suffering a 6-2 loss, while sophomore Erin O'Dell lost a close match to Robert Prigmore of Chattanooga, 4-0, at 184-pounds.

While, It was the first Southern Conference match for GWU who joined the league in wrestling only in the offseason, the win was the 36th straight league victory for the Mocs who have not lost a SoCon bout since 2004 and have won 21 straight dual bouts at home dating back to 2003.

Gardner-Webb (1-1) will return to competition next weekend, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take part in the Navy Classic hosted on Saturday, November 19th, in Annapolis, Maryland.
