
Moffitt, Wilcox and Feldman Earn Big South Conference Postseason Honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb senior Evan Moffitt was tabbed the 2011 Big South Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while senior Laura Wilcox was named to the All-Conference Second-Team and freshman setter Heather Feldman earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team, announced the League Office on Wednesday night.
Moffitt, who also earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team for the third straight year, was named the Big South Scholar-Athlete for volleyball. The senior Chemistry major was a Lowes CLASS Senior Award nominee and has posted a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while at GWU.
This season on the court, Moffitt, who transitioned from setter to libero, led GWU and was third in the Big South in total digs with 452, ranked fourth in the conference overall in digs per set at 4.19 and was tied for fourth in the Big South in service aces with 34, also a team-high. Moffitt was also second on the team with 79 set assists and recorded double-digit digs in 22 matches on the season. The senior, who posted a career-high 39 digs at Coastal Carolina in September, was tabbed the Big South Defensive Player of the Week on September 19th and named to the Spartan Classic All-Tournament Team.
For her career at GWU, Moffitt ranks third in GWU's Division I career record books in digs (1,314), fourth in set assists (1,183), fourth in sets played (461), fifth in service aces (119), 11th in total blocks (96) and 18th in kills (344) heading into the 2011 Big South Volleyball Championships presented by Musco Sports Lighting this week.
For the third time in four years, Wilcox was named to the Big South All-Conference Second-Team. The senior middle blocker is wrapping up a record setting career at GWU that started with her being named the Big South Freshman of the Year in 2008. Wilcox leads the team and is second in the Big South with a .350 attack percentage for the year and ranks second on the team this year in kills with 240 and third in kills per set at 2.16. Wilcox, who is third on the team with 281 points (2.54 per set) and in blocks with 59 on the season, posted double-digit kills 10 times, including a season-high 16 kills against Asheville.
During her four years at Gardner-Webb, Wilcox ranks second in GWU's Division I career record books in kills (1,175) and in total blocks (242). She is also in third-place in GWU's Division I career record books in sets played (465) and is 10th in career aces with 81.
In her first season at GWU, Feldman played in every set and led the Runnin' Bulldogs in set assists, to earn All-Freshman Team honors. Feldman, who started from day one at the setter position as a true freshman leads GWU and ranks second in the Big South with 1,062 set assists and in assists per set at 9.57 on the year. Feldman, who also ranks second on the team with 27 service aces and in digs with 262, recorded 12 double-doubles on the season. She totaled a career-high 63 assists at USC Upstate and posted 40 assists or more in 12 different contests on the season.
In only one year at Gardner-Webb, Feldman, who was tabbed the Big South Freshman of the Week on October 31stt, ranks fifth in GWU's Division I career record books in assists with 1,062, while her 1,062 assists also ranks fourth in GWU's DI record books for the most assists in a single season.
The No. 8 seeded Runnin' Bulldogs will open up the 2011 Big South Volleyball Championship tournament tomorrow afternoon, as GWU will take on the No. 1 seeded Liberty Lady Flames at 12 p.m. at the CSU Buccaneer Fieldhouse in Charleston, S.C.
