SERIES VS. DAVIDSON
This is only the third meeting between these two teams on the court
since Gardner-Webb moved to NCAA Division I in 2000-01. In the two
teams' last meeting back in 2002, Davidson defeated GWU 68-56 at
Davidson. The Wildcats also defeated GWU 70-59 at Davidson in
2000-01. Overall, the Runnin' Bulldogs have dropped the last three
contests to the Wildcats overall after winning the first seven
meetings between these two programs.
A RARITY FOR THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
GWU's 0-3 start this season is the Runnin' Bulldogs first 0-3 start
since 2005-06.
LAST TIME OUT
Nine different Runnin' Bulldogs scored in the contest, as
Gardner-Webb fell to Appalachian State 69-41 last Saturday
afternoon in Paul Porter Arena. In the first half, GWU could not
buy a bucket, as the home team was ice cold from the floor,
shooting 29.6 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the
three-point line in the first 20 minutes of play. Back-to-back
baskets from Breynna Winkler and Anna Dill in the final 1:22 of the
opening half, put the Runnin' Bulldogs down just 10 at 30-20
heading into the halftime intermission. GWU cut the lead to nine on
two occasions in the second half; however, the Mountaineers took
advantage of six GWU turnovers over a four-minute period to extend
their lead to as high as 28 in the 69-41 win. The loss is
Gardner-Webb's second straight to the Mountaineers, while the
Runnin' Bulldogs start the season at 0-3 for the first time since
2005-06. Sophomores Catrina Green and Jasmine Dale each had a
team-high seven points, while Green hauled down 11 rebounds in 28
minutes of play. Freshman Eliana Scanlon had six points, while
Heilig added five points on 2-of-4 shooting for the contest.
GWU WILL RETURN HOME IN DECEMBER
Gardner-Webb will return home to host the Wofford College Terriers
on Saturday, December 3rd. The game, which is the first of a
double-tilt with the men's basketball team, is slated for a 4 p.m.
tip-off.
