GWU Wrestling to Host Appalachian State on Monday Night, December 5th, at 7 p.m.

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling program will host its first-ever Southern Conference home bout on Monday night, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers will take on the Mountaineers of Appalachian State at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb is 1-1 in dual match action thus far this season with their lone loss coming to fellow Southern Conference foe Chattanooga back on November 11th.
GWU is coming off a number of strong individual performances at both the Pembroke Classic and the Navy Classic two weekends ago on November 19th.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had five different wrestlers in Justin Kozera, Alex Medved, Michael Slaughter, Travis Porter and Justin Guthrie place in their respective weight classes at the 2011 Navy Classic. At the 285-pound weight class, Kozera posted a perfect 3-0 day to take first-place overall. Alex Medved, the top seed at 157-pounds, posted three wins before suffering a fall at 3:50 to the No. 3 seeded John Regan of Bucknell in the finals to take second-place overall. Slaughter took third-place at 125-pounds, Porter placed fourth overall at 197-pounds, and Guthrie earned a fifth-place finish at 165-pounds.
Appalachian State is 2-1 in dual match action thus far this season, including posting a 50-0 shutout win at home over Belmont Abbey on November 13th.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 24-16 loss at No. 14 Virginia Tech on Thursday night, in which Savva Kostis earned a major decision win at 149-pounds, Chip Powell recorded a fall at 2:40 at 157-pounds, No. 20 Kyle Blevins posted a decision at 165-pounds and No. 11 Austin Trotman won at 184-pounds.
Trotman, a preseason all-conference team selection at 184-pounds, leads the Mountaineers with a perfect 9-0 record this season and is ranked No. 20 overall by Intermat, while fellow preseason all-conference members Blevins and Mike Kessler each have 12 wins on the season overall.
The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time in Paul Porter Arena.
