SERIES VS. NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
GWU and North Carolina Central have met in non-conference play in each of the last three years with the Runnin' Bulldogs, earning wins in all three match ups. GWU is a perfect 3-0 versus the Lady Eagles in their NCAA Division I history and is 1-0 against N.C. Central on the Lady Eagles' home court having picked up a 66-55 road win in Durham, N.C. back in 2009-10.
ROAD TRIP!
GWU is in the middle of their longest road trip of the season, as the contest versus the Lady Eagles will be the third game of a five-game road swing over the month of December. GWU is 0-4 on the road this far this season, including having gone 0-2 thus far on this current road trip.
LOOKING TO AVOID A 0-10 START
GWU will not only be looking for their first win of the season, but the Runnin' Bulldogs will also be looking to avoid a 0-10 start on the year. GWU's current 0-9 record is the Runnn' Bulldogs worst start under current head coach Rick Reeves in his eight seasons at the helm of the women's basketball program. The 0-9 start is the worst for a GWU team since the Runnin' Bulldogs began the 2003-04 season at 0-10 overall, the year prior to Coach Reeve's arrival in Boiling Springs, N.C.
TURNOVERS/POINTS CORRELATION
In GWU's last contest versus Lipscomb, the young Runnin' Bulldogs squad proved the correlation that the less turnovers the more points you can score. In the GWU's loss to Lipscomb, the Runnin' Bulldogs had a season-low 17 turnovers and a season-high 65 points. In fact, GWU had only five turnovers in the second half of play and scored 52 points, more than they had scored in an entire game in their previous eight contests.
LAST TIME OUT
Gardner-Webb scored 52 points in the final 20 minutes of play, but couldn't overcome a miserable offensive first-half to fall to Lipscomb, 76-65, in Nashville, Tenn. on December 18th. Battling foul trouble all game long, GWU sophomore center Catrina Green had a game-high and career-high 19 points and hauled in 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of play. Jasmine Dale added 10 points, while KiKi Smith and Brianna Dillard had nine and eight points, respectively. GWU, who had only 13 points at the half, scored a season-high 52 points in the second half alone to push the Lady Bison of Lipscomb to the final horn. While it was GWU's best game of the year offensively, the Runnin' Bulldogs also protected the ball, committing a season-low 17 turnovers in the loss.
GWU WILL RETURN HOME IN THE NEW YEAR
Gardner-Webb's next home contest will be on January 7th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at 5 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena. The game will be GWU's first home contest since hosting Wofford on December 3rd and will be part of a double-header with the men's basketball team.
