
Runnin' Bulldogs Continue Home Stand Tuesday Night Against Alice Lloyd College

BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will continue its four-game home stand Tuesday night, hosting Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College at 7:00 pm in Paul Porter Arena.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-6, 1-1 Big South) are fresh off a thrilling, 62-60, win over Winthrop at home Saturday night, which saw Tashan Newsome score twice in the final 1:15 - including the eventual game winner with just over 30 seconds to play. Newsome also had a key defensive stop with less than four seconds left as Winthrop went for the win.
Alice Lloyd (6-3), an NAIA school located in Pippa Passes, Ky., is averaging 77.6 points per game so far this season and is knocking down a solid 36.0 percent of its three-point attempts (63-of-172). The Eagles have five players averaging in double digits scoring through nine games, led by Isaac Wilson (15.3 ppg), Shawn Thompson (13.2 ppg) and Casey Dalton (13.0 ppg) - with Dalton hitting at a 46.0 percent clip from long distance (20-of-43) and Wilson shooting 40.0 percent from three-point range (16-of-40).
Gardner-Webb has gotten a major lift this season from its backcourt, with transfer Jason Dawson (12.5 ppg) and freshman Max Landis (11.3 ppg) adding scoring punch. Dawson had 16 points in the Winthrop win Saturday, and is shooting impressively this season - hitting 45.6 of his three-point tries (26-of-57) and 79.2 percent of his free throws (19-of-24).
Mike Byron, the Runnin' Bulldogs' 6-foot-11, 250-pound center, has also been a force at times through nine games, averaging a career-high 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. Byron has scored at least 16 points in three of the team's last five games - including 16 points at Butler on November 23.
