Basketball Alumni Event Set For Saturday In Conjunction With South Carolina State Game

BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will host a special men's basketball alumni event Saturday, December 10, in conjunction with its game vs. South Carolina State in Paul Porter Arena.
Opening tip for Gardner-Webb's game vs. South Carolina State is set for 7:00 pm.
Saturday's events include an alumni game in the afternoon, a dinner and reception prior to the GWU-SC State game and a special ceremony at halftime to honor the former players and coaches in attendance.
"This is something our staff has envisioned since coming here," said Gardner-Webb head coach Chris Holtmann. "The rich tradition of basketball here runs through many generations and decades - we've had some great teams, players and coaches over the years. We feel that it is very important for our current student-athletes, coaches and fans to honor and recognize those who helped lay the foundation for Gardner-Webb basketball.
"The response from our basketball alumni has been very positive. Almost 60 have confirmed they are attending so far, and we are hopeful to see many more and their families on Saturday. This should be a great way to celebrate Gardner-Webb basketball, and we would encourage all of our fans to join us for our game against South Carolina State that evening."
Alumni who have confirmed their attendance span nearly six decades and include Hall of Famers George Adams, Jerry Beane, Dave Bormann, Drew Bridges, Bobby Bush, Bill Ellis and Coach Eddie Holbrook, among others.

Gardner-Webb (5-6) enters Saturday's game against South Carolina State riding a two-game win streak and will face a solid SCSU squad that took a 73-68 win over GWU on November 19 in Orangeburg.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have been led the season by guards Max Landis (12.0 ppg) and Jason Dawson (11.5 ppg), and the frontcourt duo of Mike Byron (7.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.4 blocks) and Kevin Hartley (7.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg).
