Runnin' Bulldogs Earn 5-2 Victory over Charlotte Thursday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Charlotte Thursday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
GWU (2-0) earned the doubles point to start the action following wins by the duos of Ioana Oprea and Jenny Lunde, and Ronia Hutterli and Rita Gouveia.
The Runnin' Bulldogs earned another point at the onset of singles play, as Erica White defeated Alexandra Zinn (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) at the No. 1 position, yet the 49ers (3-1) earned a point soon after at the No. 2 position as Andrea Rivera defeated Ioana Oprea (6-3, 6-4).
Jenny Lunde downed Emmanuelle Briant in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) at the No. 4 position, yet Iveta Guneva defeated Tavenner Black (7-5, 7-6 (5)) at the No. 5 position to put the score at 3-2 in GWU's favor.
At the No. 5 position, Ronia Hutterli needed a third set to defeat Anna Ekelund (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the overall victory. Action concluded at the No. 3 position, as Laura Kriett earned a win in a super tiebreaker over Gabi Vergara (6-7 (6), 6-4, 12-10).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will next be in action this upcoming Saturday afternoon as they open up Big South Conference play at Coastal Carolina. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start time.
