BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team
earned four consecutive points to propel the squad to a 5-2 win
over Lees-McRae College Wednesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis
Complex.
Gardner-Webb (4-5) took the early advantage in doubles play,
where the Runnin' Bulldogs swept all three matches to seize the
doubles point.
In singles action, Andrew
Veeder defeated Pedro de Sousa Nunes (6-2, 6-2) in straight
sets at the No. 4 position and Roman
Piftor downed Graham Battle (6-1, 6-0) in consecutive sets at
the No. 5 position to take a 3-0 advantage.
Matthew
Parker's win at the No. 6 position over Jacob Darling (6-2,
6-3) sealed the overall victory for GWU. Reigning Big South Men's
Tennis Freshman of the Week Korhan
Ates also picked up a win at the No. 2 position over Travis
VanHoy (6-1, 6-4).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will next be in action this Saturday,
hosting Anderson at 11:00 AM.
