ATHENS, Ga. - The opening day of the 2011 Coastal Collegiate
Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships has finished, and the
Gardner-Webb men's swim team currently sits in third place in the
overall standings with 222 points, trailing leader Davidson with
266 and College of Charleston with 232.
Action began with the 200 yard freestyle relay, where the team
of DJ Hughes, Kevin Koenig, George Partin, and Matt Anderson
finished second with a time of 1:22.29, setting a new school record
for the event.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Sam Wilson timed in at 4:38.45 for a
third place finish, and Tyler Nuss clocked in at 4:40.81 for a
sixth place finish.
Runnin' Bulldog swimmers claimed four of the top six spots in
the 200 yard IM, as Steven Caudill timed in at 1:50.78, Jordan
Denmark timed in at 1:52.43, Samuel Woods timed in at 1:53.95, and
DJ Hughes timed in at 1:55.39 to finish third through sixth
respectively. Caudill's time of 1:50.78 set a new school record
for the event.
In the 50 yard freestyle, George Partin took sixth place with a
time of 21.17. Matt Anderson places eighth with a time of
21.55.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Jordan Denmark, Casey
Brutus, Steven Caudill and George Partin set another new school
record, timing in at 3:20.12 for a second place finish.
"The team had a great session tonight." stated Gardner-Webb
assistant coach Travis Stensby. "The guys showed a lot of
resilience, coming together for solid sessions, both tonight and
this morning. Hats off to both relay teams, as well as Sam Wilson
and Steven Caudill for setting new school records. We now look
forward to the remainder of the Championships as our two best days
are ahead of us."
The 2011 CCSA Championships will resume Friday morning at 10:00
AM with preliminaries. The finals will begin at 6:00 PM. Action
