Runnin' Bulldogs Get Past Elon, 4-3, In Women's Tennis Action

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Elon Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex. The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season, while Elon falls to 3-4.
Action began with doubles play, where the duos of Laura Kriett and Erica White, and Rita Gouveia and Ronia Hutterli won their matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions respectively to give GWU the doubles point.
The Runnin' Bulldogs earned three victories in singles play to clinch the overall victory. At the No. 2 position, Ioana Oprea defeated Frida Jansaker (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) in what was the deciding match. Jenny Lunde defeated Viviana Staureva (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 4 position and Rita Gouveia defeated Andrea Pont (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 6 position.
Gardner-Webb will next be in action this upcoming Wednesday afternoon, hosting Presbyterian College at 2:00 PM at the Webb Tennis Complex.
