BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Presbyterian College Wednesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs its best start at the Division I level.
GWU (5-1) got the early advantage over the Blue Hose, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the point.
In singles play, Erica White defeated Christina Limantoro (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 1 position and Laura Kriett defeated Cara Caruso (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 3 position to take the 3-0 advantage.
GWU clinched the overall win when Ronia Hutterli downed Patrica Alves (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 5 position. Rita Gouveia defeated Lindsay Krause (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 6 position and Jenny Lunde defeated Courtney Gardiner (4-6, 7-5, 10-8).
Gardner-Webb's win gave the Runnin' Bulldogs its fifth win in six matches for the season, giving GWU its best start since becoming a Division I member in 2002.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will next be in action this Saturday, facing Charleston Southern at 1:00 PM in Charleston, S.C.
