
GWU's Long and Hutschalik Headline All-Conference Honors as the Runnin' Bulldogs Wrap Up at the 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships

Clemson, S.C. - Gardner-Webb had senior Carrie Long and redshirt-senior Christoph Hutschalik tabbed as the 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Women's and Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Years, as the Runnin' Bulldogs had 11 total all-conference performers at the two-day 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships in Clemson, S.C.
In the team scores, Gardner-Webb women's team placed fifth overall with 52.50 points, while the men's team came in seventh with 49 points. Liberty's women's team took first-place with 179.50 points, while the Flames' men's team also took first-place with 198 points for the two-day event.
On the men's side, like fellow teammate Ashlei Alexander on Thursday, redshirt-senior Christoph Hutschalik set a new GWU school record and took first-place overall in the men's weight throw event with his toss of 19.27 meters (63'2.75"), earning all-conference honors.
Fellow thrower Travis Rogers also earned all-conference honors in the men's weight throw event on Friday, setting a new personal best mark with a distance of 17.49 meters (57'4.75").
Also earning all-conference honors on the men's side on Friday was sophomore Josiah Stanton-Brooks, who crossed the finish line in second with his time of 1:55.19, and senior Johnathan Rucker, who turned in a personal best time of 8.09 in the 60 meter hurdles finals to finish in third-place overall.
GWU also had a number of different performers score points on the men's side, as sophomore Bo Miller finished sixth overall in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.05, while freshman Johnathan Parks crossed the finish line in sixth-place overall in the 200 meter dash finals with his time of 22.68.
The 4x400 meter relay unit of Rucker, Evan Brusich, Parks and Stanton-Brooks picked up a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:21.46, while Brusich placed eighth in the 60 meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.45.
Freshman Carson Sears also earned points for GWU in the weight throw event with an eighth-place finish in which he turned in a toss of 16.49 meters (54'1.25"), while fellow thrower C.J. Wise set a new personal best mark of 13.75 meters (45'1.50") in the weight throw event.
On the women's side, six different Runnin' Bulldogs joined Alexander in earning all-conference honors on Friday afternoon.
Senior Carrie Long took second-place overall in the women's pole vault event, earning all-conference honors with a mark of 3.60 meters (11'9.75"), while junior Sarah Herd earned all-conference honors with her third-place finish in the women's high jump event, clearing the bar at 1.60 meters (5'6").
Also earning all-conference honors on Friday was the 4x400 meter relay team of T'Keyah Bell, Cherish Richardson, Amara Isbell and Ivana Hughes, which turned in a time of 3:56.02 to finish in second-place overall in the event.
GWU's Alexander, who earned all-conference honors on Thursday for her first-place finish in the women's shot put event with a school record throw, recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's weight throw event with a school record and personal best mark of 16.19 meters (53'1.50").
Gardner-Webb's Hughes and Richardson both scored points for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 800 meter run finals, as Hughes took fourth-place with a personal best time of 2.15.97, while Richardson crossed the finish line in eighth-place with her time of 2:22.76.
In the women's pole vault event, GWU had three Runnin' Bulldogs record points besides Long. Ann Marie Howell took fifth-place overall with a mark of 3.45 meters (11'3.75"), while sophomores Taylor Cook and Bethany Wright both finished tied for eighth-place with marks of 3.30 meters (10'10"), a new personal best height for Wright.
Sophomore Ariel Zimmerman crossed the finish line in eighth-place overall in the women's 1 mile event with a time of 5:15.61, while fellow teammate Elisabeth Sawyer set a new personal best time of 5:24.86 in the same event.
Other GWU Runnin' Bulldogs that set personal best marks on Friday afternoon were Kyntoya Hansford, who turned in a throw of 14.08 meters (46'2.50") in the women's weight throw event, good enough to place 10th overall, Jasmine Miles, who recorded a new personal best distance of 13.55 meters (44'5.50") in the weight throw event, and sophomore Yazzming Lee, who also posted a new personal best mark in the weight throw event with a mark of 13.52 meters (44'4.25").
