
GWU Women's Basketball Falls at PC, 73-65

Clinton, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team was outrebounded 43-28 and surrendered 25 made free throws for Presbyterian College over the 40 minutes of play, as the Blue Hose upended Gardner-Webb 73-65 in Clinton, S.C. on Saturday evening.
Gardner-Webb took a 13-12 lead over PC on a made free throw by freshman center Catrina Green with 10:52 on the clock in the first half, its fourth and final lead of the first half, as PC took advantage of numerous free throw attempts and their hot shooting to hold off the Runnin' Bulldogs for the rest of the opening 20 minutes of play.
PC's Shonda Burnside knocked down a jumper to put the home team in front at 14-13 with 10:25 to play, a basket that jump started a 12-5 run by PC over the next four minutes, putting the Blue Hose in front at 26-18 with 6:11 to go in the opening half.
The Runnin' Bulldogs cut the PC lead to three at 26-23 on an old-fashion three-point play by senior guard Dominique Hudson with 3:28 on the clock, only to have the Blue Hose run off eight straight points en route to taking a 36-28 halftime lead.
After PC pushed its lead to 11 to start out the second half, Gardner-Webb cut the PC lead to four at 39-35 on a made free throw by senior guard Monique Hudson with 15:42 to go in the contest.
Sophomore guard Brianna Dillard then ran off five straight points of her own to put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front at 43-41 with a little over12 minutes to play, again only to have the Blue Hose answer with an offensive run of its own, scoring five straight points to go up 46-43 with 11:02 on the clock.
Gardner-Webb again retook the lead at 51-50 on a made bucket by redshirt-senior center Sandra Vaitkute with 8:25 to play, however, PC again responded with another 5-0 run to retake a four-point lead at 57-53.
A three-pointer by senior forward LaTroya Pope with 1:42 to go in regulation cut the Blue Hose lead to one at 61-60, however, Gardner-Webb struggled to slow down the PC offensive, as PC finished the game out on a 12-5 run, including four made free throws in the final 20 seconds of the game to seal the 73-65 home win over GWU.
For the game, PC shot 45.8 percent, while GWU shot 40 percent from the floor, while the Blue Hose were 25-of-33, 75.8 percent from the free throw line, compared to Gardner-Webb's 12-of-24, 50 percent from the charity stripe for the game.
Dominique Hudson had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Vaitkute and Monique Hudson both posted 12 points apiece. Green added 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.
For PC, Burnside had a game-high 19 points, while Sherece Smith posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dria David had 12 points, while Karlee Taylor added 15 points in the win.
Gardner-Webb (18-10, 9-5 Big South) will wrap up its regular season slate next weekend, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Winthrop at 7 p.m. on Friday night, March 4th, and will then welcome Radford to town on Sunday, March 6th, at 3 p.m.
Presbyterian College (9-18, 5-9 Big South) will host the Radford Highlanders on Monday night, February 28th, at 7 p.m. in Clinton, S.C.
