
GWU Men's Golf Takes Ninth at Charleston Shootout to Tee-Off the Spring Season

Charleston, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team started out with a first round 293 on Monday morning and a 296 round two on Monday afternoon, but only shot a team round of 308 on Tuesday to finish the two-day three round event with a combined team score of 897, +33, good enough for ninth-place overall in the team standings out of 15 teams.
Gardner-Webb's 897, +32, was one stroke behind Atlantic Sun member USC Upstate, who finished in eighth-place with a team score of 896, +31, while Baylor took first-place in the team standings with a stellar 856, -8, over the three rounds.
Sophomore Daniel Kim carded a GWU low round 68, -4, in the first round on Monday, and then shot rounds of 75 and 79, to finish the tournament in a tie at 22nd-place with a combined two-day score of 222, +6.
Redshirt-junior J.J. Regan carded rounds of 73, 74 and 77 to finish the three rounds with a combined score of 224, +8, good enough to place him in a tie for 29th-place overall, while junior Kristopher Gray finished one stroke back of Regan with a combined score of 225, +9, to finish in a tie for 33rd overall.
Rounding out the scoring for Gardner-Webb was freshman Steven Jones, who bounced back from a first-round 82, with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish the two-day tournament in a tie for 50th-place overall with a score of 231, +15, while senior Scott Wheeler carded a score of 235, +19, to finish in a tie at 55th position.
Gardner-Webb will continue its 2011 spring season next week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee-off at the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate in Charleston, S.C. on March 6-8th.
