Gardner-Webb To Host Lander Tuesday Night At 6:00 PM

BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will host Lander (S.C.) University Tuesday night at John Henry Moss Stadium / Bill Masters Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.

The Bearcats (14-9) are members of the Division II Peach Belt Conference and are coming off an impressive weekend sweep of No. 17 USC Aiken. Current GWU head coach Rusty Stroupe started the school's baseball program in 1998, before taking over at Gardner-Webb after the 2002 season.

Lander was added to the schedule last week after a two-game set with North Greenville was rained out on March 5.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (11-3) are off to their best start since moving to NCAA Division I prior to the 2001 season. The squad is riding an eight-game win streak, and is 7-2 in brand new John Henry Moss Stadium / Bill Masters Field.

Redshirt junior Dusty Quattlebaum leads the Big South Conference in batting (.477) after 14 games, and sophomore righty Jeff Howell is among the circuit's strikeout leaders, fanning 20 and walking just one in 11.2 innings of relief work in 2011.

Gardner-Webb has a busy week in store, with a road game at North Carolina A&T on Wednesday and a three-game series opening Big South Conference play at home against UNC Asheville set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
