
Runnin' Bulldogs Sweep Pfeiffer, 7-0, Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs didn't drop a single set in singles action, as the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Pfeiffer on a warm Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
GWU (7-8) jumped out to the early advantage, earning the doubles point with the duo of Andrew Veeder and Andrew Carter defeating Ben Hunter and Luis Villalta (8-0) at the No. 2 position and Korhan Ates and Adam Knutsson-Sundblad defeating Sid Kaushik and Stephen Tyndel (8-2) at the No. 3 position.
The Runnin' Bulldogs remained in control in singles play, earning wins in all six matches in straight sets to claim the 7-0 victory.
At the No 4 position, sophomore Roman Piftor downed Ben Hunter (6-4, 6-4) to improve to an overall record of 12-3 in singles play, which leads the squad.
At the No. 1 position, Julien Belair defeated Phillip Lawson (7-5, 6-3). Korhan Ates defeated Johan de Wit (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 position, Andrew Veeder downed Sid Kaushik (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 3 position, Adam Knutsson-Sundblad defeated Luis Villalta (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 5 position, and Matthew Parker defeated Stephen Tyndel (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 6 position.
Gardner-Webb will now focus on Big South Conference foe UNC Asheville this Wednesday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 2:30 PM at the Webb Tennis Complex.
