Gardner-Webb Picks Up 5-1 Win over Pfeiffer Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over Pfeiffer on a warm Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
Action began in doubles play, where the duo of Ioana Oprea and Jenny Lunde teamed to defeat Alena Krutkina and Cari Hopson (8-0) at the No. 1 position, and Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia defeated Briana Oliver and Chelsi Haefele (8-0) at the No. 2 position to give GWU the doubles point
In singles play, Laura Kriett defeated Cari Hopson (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 2 position, Jenny Lunde defeated Chelsi Haefele (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 3 position, Rita Gouveia defeated Briana Oliver (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 4 position, and Tavenner Black defeated Kayleigh Featherstone (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 5 position to seal the overall victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs, who improved their overall record to 8-3 for the season.
Gardner-Webb will return to action this Wednesday afternoon as they host UNC Asheville. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 start time at the Webb Tennis Complex.
