
GWU Women's Golf Takes Fourth at Low Country Intercollegiate

Hilton Head, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team teed-off its 2011 spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College at the 5,853 yard course, par 72, Moss Creek South Course in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who entered Monday's final round of play in second-place with a team score of 315, +27, carded a second round 329, +41, to finish the two-day event with a combined team score of 644, +68, placing them in fourth-place overall in the team standings.
Sophomore Lauren Smith led the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as she carded a GWU low round 76, +4, first round and an 82, +10, to finish in a tie for eighth-place overall on the two-day tournament with a combined score of 158, +14.
Fellow sophomore Hannah Hellyer carded rounds of 79 and 84 to finish in a tie for 20th-place with her combined score of 163, +19, while senior Courtney Meyer finished only three strokes behind Hellyer with a two round combined score of 166, +22, in a tie for 33rd-place overall.
Rounding out the scoring for Gardner-Webb was Sammy Vass, as the sophomore bounced back from a first round 87 on Sunday with an 81 on Monday to card a combined score of 168, +24, to place in a tie at 45th-place.
GWU's Meghan Allum, who carded a low round 76, +4, on Sunday afternoon, was disqualified on Monday due to a rules infraction.
Gardner-Webb finished 28 strokes behind first-place finisher Appalachian State (616), who finished ahead of second-place Samford (625) and third-place Wofford (640).
The Runnin' Bulldogs were the top Big South member institution in the tournament, finishing ahead of Presbyterian College (651), Radford (661), and Winthrop (670).
Gardner-Webb will return to the links in one week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take part in the Draper Valley Intercollegiate in Radford, Va. on March 28-29th.
