
Runnin' Bulldogs Take 6-1 Win Over UNC Asheville Wednesday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team fought through windy conditions Wednesday afternoon to earn a convincing 6-1 win over fellow Big South Conference member UNC Asheville at the Webb Tennis Complex.
The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 8-8 overall, 2-1 in Big South play, while Asheville falls to 6-7 overall, 0-2 in Big South play.
Action kicked out with doubles play, where GWU earned wins at all three positions to claim the doubles point.
In singles play, Gardner-Webb took five of the six matches to claim the overall victory. Sophomore Adam Knutsson-Sundblad earned the first singles win of the day for GWU at the No. 5 position, defeating Thomas Rees (6-4, 6-2) in straight sets. At the No. 3 position, freshman Korhan Ates won a hard fought match against Ryan Matthews (7-5, 7-5).
The overall win was sealed for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the No. 4 position when sophomore Roman Piftor downed Jonas Brobeck (6-1, 7-5) in straight sets. The final match of the day also went to GWU as sophomore Julien Belair defeated Nicola Nonnenbroich (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday hosting Liberty at 10:00 AM and Lenior-Rhyne at 2:00 PM in doubleheader action at the Webb Tennis Complex.
