SCHEDULE
Gardner-Webb will compete at the 2011 NCAA East Regional
Championships this Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Lynchburg,
Va.
2011 NCAA EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS
SUNDAY
Gardner-Webb will compee at the 2011 NCAA East Regional
Championships this Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va. GWU will
have a number of individuals looking to win their respective weight
classes and earn a spot in the 2011 NCAA National Championships.
Gardner-Webb does not have a single grappler on its roster that has
made it to the NCAA National Championships, yet have a number of
individuals highlighted by Alex Medved, Ryan Medved, Richie Spicel,
Travis Porter and Jonathan Velazquez that could make a run through
the championships brackets on Sunday afternoon.
UNCG SPARTANS DOWN GWU IN FINAL HOME MATCH
The Spartans of UNC Greensboro defeated GWU in eight of the 10
matches to come away with a 37-6 dual match victory over the
Runnin' Bulldogs on February 22nd. GWU picked up wins at 141 with
Richie Spicel and at 157 with Alex Medved, yet failed to score
another win for the match.
GARDNER-WEBB FALLS AT THE CITADEL
Gardner-Webb struggled on February 19th at the Citadel, scoring
only three decision wins to ultimately fall to the Bulldogs 29-9.
At 141 Richie Spicel earned a 4-2 decision win, while at 157 Alex
Medved picked up a 4-1 victory. The lone other Runnin' Bulldog
grappler to win on Saturday night was freshman Erin O'Dell, who
recorded a 7-3 win at 174.
GWU DOMINATE DAVIDSON AT HOME
Gardner-Webb won seveon of the 10 bouts over Davidson to down the
Wildcats 31-9 at home on February 16th. GWU picked up an early 7-6
win by Brett Kostern at 125 to get on the board, yet fell behind
6-3 in the match after falling at 133 and 141. The Runnin'
Bulldogs then ran off three straight wins, as Ryan Medved earned a
14-3 major decision win at 149. GWU then finished the match out
strong with Jonathan Velazquez winning 6-2 at 184 and Travis Porter
earning a 3-1 overtime win at 285 with a late two point
takedown.
RUNNIN' BULLDOGS TAKE SECOND AT THE EAST REGIONAL
DUALS
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted a 2-1 overall dual match record at the
2011 East Regional Dual Championships, securing a 30-16 win over
Millersville and a 43-9 victory over Sacred Heart. Gardner-Webb
dropped its third and final match of the day, a 24-14 loss to
Liberty which proved to be the championship match.
GWU HAD FOUR POST THREE WINS AT EAST REGIONAL
DUALS
Gardner-Webb had four individuals go 3-0 on the day at the 2011
East Regional Dual Championships on February 4th in Millersville,
Pa. Richie Spicel, Ryan Medved, Alex Medved and Travis Porter all
went 3-0 over the three dual matches, as the four combined for
three pin fall wins and two technical fall victories.
