Runnin' Bulldogs Fall to Wofford, 4-3, Thursday Afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped a close decision with Wofford College Thursday afternoon, falling by a 4-3 score.
The Runnin' Bulldogs drop to 5-3 on the year, while the Terriers improve to 8-4.
Action began in doubles play, where the duo of Ioana Oprea and Jenny Lunde defeated Julia Paulson and Sarah Evans (8-3) at the No. 2 position, yet the Terriers took the two remaining matches to give Wofford the 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, GWU picked up three victories, as Oprea defeated Guinn Garcia in straight sets (6-4, 7-6(6) at the No. 2 position, Lunde defeated Evans (6-1, 7-5) at the No. 4 position, and Rita Gouveia defeated Stephanie Cox at the No. 6 position. However, Wofford was able to claim the overall win, taking the remaining three matches, as play at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions were stopped due to injuries.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday afternoon, hosting both Longwood and Mars Hill in doubleheader action at the Webb Tennis Complex.
