Hickory, N.C. - The
Gardner-Webb outdoor track & field team had a number of
throwers compete in the field events at the 2011 Lenoir-Rhyne
PowerSox Invitational on Saturday, March 5th in Hickory, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened up the outdoor track & field
season with nine top-10 finishes on Saturday.
On the women's side, Ann
Marie Howell and Caroline
Arledge took first and second overall in the javelin throw, as
Howell turned in a mark of 35.40 meters (116'2"), while Arledge
posted a mark of 34.84 meters (114'4").
In the women's discus throw, the freshmen duo of Kyntoya
Hansford and Jasmine
Miles recorded a second-place and third-place finish,
respectively, as Hansford turned in a throw of 32.43 meters
(106'5"), while Miles tallied a mark of 31.63 meters (103'9").
GWU sophomore Yazzming
Lee picked up a third-place finish in the women's hammer throw
event, turning in a mark of 38.30 meters (125'8"), finishing just
ahead of Hansford who took fourth with her mark of 36.63 meters
(120'2").
On the men's side, C.J.
Wise posted a first-place finish in the hammer throw event with
a mark of 44.89 meters (147'3") and a third-place finish in the
javelin throw with a toss of 44.70 meters (146'8").
Freshman Carson
Sears recorded a second-place finish in the men's discus throw
with a mark of 41.49 meters (136'1"), while Josh
Padgett placed sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of
41.20 meters (135'2").
The Gardner-Webb outdoor track & field teams will next be in
action on March 17-19th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at
the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
