
GWU Men's Golf Takes Second at Barefoot at the Beach Challenge

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team posted rounds of 289, 278 and 284 to turn in a combined team score of 851, -13, to finish in second-place overall in the team standings at the Barefoot at the Beach Challenge hosted by the Appalachian State Mountaineers at The Surf Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from March 6-8th.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, which had four players shoot under par over the three-round event, finished six strokes behind the first-place winner Kennesaw State, who turned in a three-round score of 845, -19, and two strokes ahead of the third-place finish in Stetson who carded a score of 853, -11.
Sophomore Daniel Kim turned in rounds of 71, 72 and a third round team-low 67, to shoot a combined team score of 210, -6, and finish in fifth-place overall for the three day event.
Freshman Steven Jones, who paced the Runnin' Bulldogs for the first two rounds, carded rounds of 70, 68 and 74 to shoot a combined three-round score of 212, -4, and finish tied for seventh overall.
Also picking up a top-10 finish for GWU was Kristopher Gray, as the junior turned in rounds of 74, 70 and 70 to turn in a three-day combined score of 214, -2, finishing in a three-way tied for ninth-place overall for the event.
GWU redshirt-junior J.J. Regan posted rounds of 74, 68 and 73 to finish with a combined score of 215, -1, good enough to place him in 12th overall, while senior Scott Wheeler rounded out the GWU roster with rounds of 76, 79 and 76 to finish in a tie in 50th-place.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will return to the links next week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee-off at the 2011 General Hackler Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from March 13-14th.
