Runnin' Bulldogs Earn 5-2 Win Over Radford Sunday Afternoon

RADFORD, Va. - After falling behind early, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team took five singles matches to claim a 5-2 win over Radford Sunday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.
The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 10-6 overall, 3-4 in Big South Confernce play, while the Highlanders fall to 5-12 overall, 2-5 in league play.
Action began with doubles play, where the duo of Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia defeated Sara Tegner and Emerald Lauzon (8-2) at the No. 3 position, yet the Highlanders took the remaining two matches to claim the doubles point.
GWU fought back in singles action, quickly tying the score at 1-1 when Rita Gouveia blanked Emerald Lauzon (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 6 position. The Runnin' Bulldogs took the 2-1 advantage when Jenny Lunde defeated Mirna Matic (6-2, 6-3) at the No. 4 position.
Gardner-Webb reeled off two more consecutive wins to clinch the overall victory when Ioana Oprea defeated Mia Drobnjak (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 2 position and Ronia Hutterli defeated Sara Tegner (6-0, 6-4) at the No. 5 position.
Radford picked up another point when Laura Kriett fell to Ivana Tomaic (7-5, 6-4) at the No. 3 position. The afternoon concluded with Erica White defeating Petra Dajevic (6-4, 7-5) at the No. 1 position.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action this Friday afternoon, hosing UNC Greensboro in what will be senior day for Laura Kriett, Rita Gouveia, and Tavenner Black. The match is set for a 2:30 PM start time at the Webb Tennis Complex.
