
GWU Moves to Second in Team Standings; Hellyer Climbs into First-Place with a Tournament Low 73 on Tuesday

Ninety-Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded a second round team score of 306, +18, the lowest team score of the day for the event, pushing the Runnin' Bulldogs past Charleston Southern and into second-place overall with a two-round combined score of 622, +46, at the 2011 Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
Consistency was the theme for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Tuesday, as the four GWU lady golfers combined to shoot 45 pars on day two en route to the team low score of 306 on round two.
Sophomore Hannah Hellyer, which entered round two of play tied for seventh-place with her score of 76, +4, on Monday, carded a tournament low round individual score of 73, +1, on Tuesday to move into first-place overall with a combined score of 149, +5.
Hellyer, who carded three birdies and 13 pars on Tuesday, will enter Wednesday's third and final round of play three strokes ahead of Brittany Henderson and Kaitlin Higginbotham of Coastal Carolina who are both tied for second-place with scores of 152, +8.
Fellow sophomore Lauren Smith moved up five-places herself on the individual player leader board, shooting a 78, +6, on Tuesday, to climb from 13th-place to a tie for eighth-place overall at 156, +12, heading into the final round of play on Wednesday.
Sammy Vass, who carded an 81, +9, on day one, improved by five strokes on Tuesday, shooting a second round 76, +4, to move up into a tie for 10th-place overall heading into Wednesday's final round of play.
Sophomore Meghan Allum followed up her first round of 82, +10, on Monday with a second round 79, +7, posting 10 pars, including six over the final nine holes, moving up from 24th-place to 17th-place after play on Tuesday.
Gardner-Webb's fifth competitor Courtney Meyer had to withdraw due to sickness prior to teeing-off round two on Tuesday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs gained six strokes on the first-place team Coastal Carolina, who carded a team score of 312, +24, on Tuesday to move to 613, +37, to hold a nine stroke lead over Gardner-Webb heading into Wednesday's final round of play.
Charleston Southern, who entered Tuesday's play in second-place, carded a round of 328, +40, to drop back to fourth-place overall at 640, +64, five strokes behind the current third-place team High Point at 635, +59.
The third and final round of the 2011 Big South Women's Golf Championships presented by Musco Sports Lighting is set to tee-off at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
