GWU Men's Golf Earns the No. 4 Seed in 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University has secured the No. 4 seed in next week's Big South Men's Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Radford University at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C. The Runnin' Bulldogs receive the No. 4 seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking of No. 145.
The Liberty Flames receive the No. 1 seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking of 32, the highest among the eight Big South men's golf programs. It is also the highest ranking for a Big South men's golf team since Coastal Carolina spent the 2006-07 season among the nation's Top-10.
Coastal Carolina, which enters the championship as the seven-time defending champion, is ranked No. 59 in the nation by Golfweek and receives the No. 2 seed, while host Radford is the No. 3 seed with its ranking of 119. Charleston Southern, last year's team runner-up ranked, is No. 158 nationally and will be the No. 5 seed in the championship, with Winthrop (161) receiving the No. 6 seed. High Point rounds out the official championship field at No. 7 with its ranking of 193. Presbyterian College, which is ranked No. 181 in the nation, will again participate in the event on an invitation-only basis, as the team is not eligible for the Conference Championship until 2013 due to its transition process to Division I. PC's team and individual scores will not count in the official standings.
The Patriot Club is hosting the Big South Men's Golf Championship for the sixth time in seven years, as the course hosted the event in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship begins this weekend with a practice round on Sunday, April 17. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played April 18-20 and is free and open to the public. In addition, fans can follow the action online via GolfStat's "Live Scoring" feature. The 2011 champion will receive the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Meanwhile, the Big South Men's Golf Awards Banquet will be held Sunday evening, April 17 at 6:30pm. The 2011 annual award winners, the All-Academic Team and half of the All-Conference team (based on regular-season performance) will be announced at that time, while the remaining All-Conference performers will be determined by their finish in the Conference Championship.
