GWU Women's Tennis Earns 5-2 Win Over UNC Greensboro on Senior Day

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs swept through doubles play and didn't let up, picking up a 5-2 win over UNC Greensboro Friday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex on what was Senior Day.
Gardner-Webb finishes the regular season with an 11-6 overall record, while the Spartans fall to 13-6 on the season.
Action began with doubles play, where the duo of Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia defeated Stephanie Macfarlane and Devon Sutherland (8-2) at the No. 1 position, and the team of Erica White and Jenny Lunde defeated Mikayla Rogers and Dilara Yurtkuran (8-3) at the No. 2 position to claim the doubles point. The team of Ioana Oprea and Ronia Hutterli won at the No. 3 position by default.
In singles play, Erica White downed Stephanie Macfarlane (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets at the No. 1 position and Ronia Hutterli defeated Devon Sutherland (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 4 position to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs. Rita Gouveia and Tavenner Black earned wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively by default to seal the overall match for GWU.
UNCG earned wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, as Dilara Yurtkuran defeated Laura Kriett (7-6(4), 6-3) and Mikalya Rogers defeated Jenny Lunde (6-3, 6-0).
Prior to the start of today's match, the 2011 senior class of Tavenner Black, Rita Gouveia, and Laura Kriett were honored in a courtside ceremony for their contributions to the Gardner-Webb women's tennis program, on and off the courts.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will now prepare for the 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championships, beginning Thursday, April 21st in Rock Hill, S.C. at Winthrop University.
