GWU's Scott Wheeler Named to Big South Men's Golf All-Academic Team

Charlotte, N.C. - For the third straight year, Gardner-Webb senior Scott Wheeler was named to the Big South Men's Golf All-Academic Team the League office announced Sunday night at the Big South Men's Golf Championship Tournament Banquet in Ninety-Six, S.C.
Wheeler, GWU's lone senior golfer on the team this season, graduated in December with a cumulative 3.9363 grade point average and earned a degree in International Business. Wheeler, who is currently working on his toward his Master's Degree in Business Administration, has posted a stroke average of 76.43 on the season and carded a low round 72 at the Davidson College Invitational.
The graduate student has played in eight of GWU's nine tournaments thus far this season where he helped lead GWU to a second-place team finish at the Barefoot at the Beach Challenge and was vital in GWU's fourth-place finish at the 2010 Hummingbird Intercollegiate.
Last year's Big South Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Wheeler is a three-time member of the Big South All-Academic Team having received the honor in 2009, 2010 and now 2011.
Below is half of the 2011 Men's Golf All-Conference Team, plus our annual award winners - all based on regular-season play and voted by the head golf coaches. In addition, the All-Academic Team is included. The remaining All-Conference team will be determined on tournament play.
Gardner-Webb University has secured the No. 4 seed in next week's Big South Men's Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Radford University at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played April 18-20 and is free and open to the public. In addition, fans can follow the action online via GolfStat's "Live Scoring" feature. The 2011 champion will receive the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
