
GWU's Regan and Kim Shoot an Even 72 on Day One, As Runnin' Bulldogs Sit in Fifth-Place After Day One of the 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship

Ninety-Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team opened up the 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship with a first round combined team score of 299, +11, on Monday, to finish the day in fifth-place overall in the team standings after day one of competition at the 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship hosted by Radford University at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs 299, +11, puts them in fifth-place heading into day two of play on Tuesday, one stroke behind Radford who finished in fourth-place with a 298, +10 and only nine strokes behind the tournament leader in the Liberty Flames at 290, +2.
GWU's J.J. Regan and Daniel Kim paced the Runnin' Bulldogs pretty much from start to finish on Monday, as both cared a first round score of 72, even par, on Monday to finish in a three-way tie for sixth-place.
Regan, who opened up the first round with an eagle on the very first hole, posted a 72, even par, with a front nine of 36 and a back nine of 36, while Kim, who also posted a 36 on both the front nine and back nine, led the Runnin' Bulldogs with four birdies en route to his 72, even par.
Junior Kristopher Gray shot a first round 77, +5, to finish in a tie for 24th-place, while freshman Steven Jones, who opened up play with a birdie on hole number one, finished the first round with a score of 78, +6, which was good enough to put him in a tie for 30th-place overall.
Senior Scott Wheeler, who was named to the Big South All-Academic Team earlier this week, recorded 13 pars en route to a first round 79, +7 on Monday, placing him in a tie at 33rd-place after day one.
Day two of the 2011 Big South Men's Golf Championship is slated to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
