
GWU Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With 7-0 Win Over Spartanburg Methodist

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis swept through doubles and singles play to take a 7-0 win over Spartanburg Methodist in the squad's final match of the regular season Tuesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, the duo of Korhan Ates and Adam Knutsson-Sundblad defeated Stephen Higginbotham and Johnathan Connor (8-0) at the No. 3 position, shortly followed by Roman Piftor and Julien Belair defeating the duo of Josh Lanford and David Manley at the No. 2 spot to claim the doubles point. The team of Andrew Veeder and Andrew Carter downed Matheus Barcela and Corey White to complete the sweep.
In singles action, Adam Knutsson-Sundblad defeated David Manley (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 4 position, followed by Andrew Carter blanking Johnathan Connor (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 6 position to put the Runnin' Bulldogs up 3-0.
Matthew Parker's win over Stephen Higginbotham (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 5 position sealed the overall win for GWU. Korhan Ates downed Corey White (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 2 position, Julien Belair defeated Matheus Barcela (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 1 spot, and Roman Piftor defeated Troy Lanford (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 3 position to complete the sweep of singles play.
Gardner-Webb (11-11) will now prepare for the opening round of the 2011 Big South Men's Tennis Championships, facing UNC Asheville at 10:00 AM in Rock Hill, S.C.
