
Four Members of the GWU Men's Tennis Team Earn Big South Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The 2011 Big South Conference Men's Tennis postseason awards were announced this evening at a ceremony held on the campus of Winthrop University, with four members of the Gardner-Webb squad earning honors.
The duo of Korhan Ates and Adam Knutsson-Sundblad were recognized as flight champions at the No. 3 doubles, Julien Belair was named to the All-Conference Singles team, and Andrew Carter was named to the All-Academic team.
The team of Ates and Knutsson-Sundblad completed the regular season with an overall record of 9-2, going 4-0 in Big South play at the No. 3 position. The duo defeated teams from UNC Asheville, Liberty, Radford, and Winthrop to earn the flight championship.
Belair finished the regular season with a singles record of 12-10 overall, going 3-3 in Big South play. Big South wins came over Presbyterian College's Grayson Mills, UNC Asheville's Nicola Nonnenbroich, and Liberty's Siim Tuus.
Carter earned his spot on the All-Academic team with a cumulative GPA of 3.76 while majoring in Computer Science. The senior from Melbourne, Australia teamed with fellow senior Andrew Veeder throughout the season at No. 1 doubles, earning an overall record of 12-9 and 4-2 in Big South play. He also posted four singles wins throughout the season.
Winthrop's Sergey Belov was named Player of the Year and Radford's Nicholas Sayer earned Freshman of the Year honors. The Scholar Athlete of the Year award went to Guy Kubi of Winthrop, while Radford's Mike Anderson was named Coach of the Year.
