
GWU Men's Tennis Falls to UNC Asheville, 4-2, in First Round of 2011 Big South Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. - No. 5 UNC Asheville defeated No. 4 Gardner-Webb 4-2 in the first round of the Big South Men's Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon at the Memorial Courts on the campus of Winthrop University.
The Runnin' Bulldogs end their season at 11-12 overall, while Asheville improves to 10-10 on the year.
Asheville took the early advantage, earning the doubles points with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
In singles play, Roman Piftor defeated Ryan Matthews (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 4 position, and Korhan Ates defeated Nicola Nonnenbroich (7-6, 7-6) at the No. 3 position, yet Asheville earned wins at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 positions to seal the overall win.
The 2011 Big South Men's Tennis Championship will continue through Saturday, April 23rd, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
