GWU Women's Tennis Falls to Winthrop, 4-0, in Big South Championship Semifinals

ROCK HILL, S.C. - No. 5 Gardner-Webb fell to No. 1 Winthrop by a 4-0 score Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championship at the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club in Charlotte, N.C.
The match was originally set to take place at the Memorial Courts at Winthrop University, but was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
The Runnin' Bulldogs end the season with a 12-7 overall record, while the Eagles improve to 16-11.
Action began with doubles play, where Winthrop took matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to take the 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Winthrop earned wins at the first three positions to take the overall win.
The 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championship will conclude Saturday afternoon in Rock Hill, S.C., with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.
