Jake Watts Named Big South Conference Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE - Gardner-Webb outfielder Jake Watts was named Big
South Conference Player of the Week Monday by the league office,
marking the third time this season a Runnin' Bulldog player has
earned that honor.
Watts (Lincolnton, N.C. / West Lincoln HS) led Gardner-Webb
(24-13-1, 9-9 Big South) to a perfect, 4-0, week on the diamond,
batting .500 (8-for-16) with seven RBI. He had two doubles, a
two-run home run and three walks to forge a .579 on base percentage
and .812 slugging percentage for the week.
His two-run bomb against Presbyterian in the first inning of game
two in the series put the 'Dogs up 2-0 and his two-run double in
the first inning of game three did the same.
Watts gunned down a key runner at home plate from left field in
game two, and opened the series by going 3-for-5 with a pair of
RBI. His RBI single in the eighth tied the game, as GWU went on to
an 8-7 win.
Watts was 2-for-3 in the team's midweek win over Furman.
The 'Dogs are back in action Wednesday night at Furman. First pitch
is set for 6:00 pm.
