Runnin' Bulldogs Fall to Liberty, 4-3, Monday Afternoon in Women' Tennis Action

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team earned the doubles point against Liberty Monday afternoon, but the Lady Flames rebounded to take four of the six singles contests for the 4-3 win.
Gardner-Webb falls to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in Big South Conference play, while Liberty improves to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs earned the doubles point behind wins from their No. 2 and No. 3 pairings. Erica White and Ronia Hutterli defeated the duo of Cameron Richard and Carol Lobel (8-5) at the No. 2 position and Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia teamed to defeat Allie Sheeran and Bekah Jenkins (8-1) at the No. 3 spot.
GWU took a quick 2-0 lead at the onset of singles play, as Erica White defeated Hannah Fick (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 1 position. The Lady Flames turned around to take the next four matches and the overall win. Bekah Jenkins defeated Ronia Hutterli (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) at the No. 5 position, Carol Lobel defeated Jenny Lunde (1-6, 6-2, 6-0) at the No. 4 position, Allie Sheeran defeated Laura Kriett (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) at the No. 3 spot, and Cameron Richard defeated Ioana Oprea (7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (3)) at the No. 2 position to determine the overall outcome.
Action concluded with Rita Gouveia defeating Annisha Domenech (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) at the No. 6 position to set the final score at 4-3.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will now set their sights on Winthrop, with the match taking place this Thursday at 2:00 PM in Rock Hill, S.C.
