Runnin' Bulldogs Down Charlotte, 6-1, Thursday Afternoon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs took two of three matches in doubles play, as well as five of six in singles action to earn a 6-1 win over Charlotte Thursday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Gardner-Webb improves to 10-9 overall for the season, while the 49ers fall to 5-15 overall.
The day began with doubles action, where the duo of Roman Piftor and Julien Belair defeated Anthony Davison and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz (8-6) at the No. 2 position, and the team of Adam Knutsson-Sundblad and Korhan Ates defeated Chris Huynh and Michael Anders (8-5) at the No. 3 position to give the GWU the early 1-0 edge.
The Runnin' Bulldogs didn't let up at the onset of singles play, taking five of six matches. At the No. 1 spot, Julien Belair dropped the first set to Charles Martin-Lecamp, but rebounded to take the next two sets to earn the win (2-6, 6-4, 6-2).
Roman Piftor picked up his 16th singles win of the season, defeating Anthony Davison at the No. 4 position when Davison retired during the second set. The win gives Piftor his eighth consecutive singles win.
Also picking up wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs were Andrew Veeder at the No. 3 spot over Moritz Bernhoerster (6-2, 7-6(6)), Adam Knutsson-Sundblad at the No. 5 position over Chris Huynh (6-2, 6-7(6), 6-0), and Matthew Parker at the No. 6 position over Victor Theorin (7-6(6), 6-4).
Gardner-Webb will return to Big South Conference play this Sunday afternoon, traveling to Radford at 1:00 PM.
