MANHEIM, Pa. - Gardner-Webb redshirt-sophomore grappler Ryan Medved was named to the 2011 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National All-Academic Team this week for the 2010-11 wrestling season.
Ryan Medved, who is majoring in Chemistry at GWU, was one of four Gardner-Webb wrestlers to represent the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The NCAA qualifier and East Regional Champion at 149 was 20-12 overall on the season and 13-7 in dual match action.
Medved led the team with six technical fall wins and posted three major decision victories on the season.
"Being able to recognize our coaches and their teams for the accomplishments that they have made academically is always a high point at the end of the season for our staff. All of the athletes that have made this year's team are setting themselves up for success once they leave college, they are becoming leaders of the future," said Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director.
