
Ryan Bell Takes Second at 51st North Carolina Amateur Championship

Greensboro, N.C. - Gardner-Webb graduate Ryan Bell carded a fourth and final round score of 72, even par, on Sunday afternoon to finish in a four-way tie for second-place overall at the 51st North Carolina Amateur Championship at the Greensboro Country Club's Farm Course in Greensboro, N.C. on June 16-19th.
Bell, who led after the first round of play on Thursday, entered Sunday's final round of play in a tie for second-place overall. With a 72, even par, final round, Bell finished the four-day event with a combined score of 277, -11 under par.
The GWU graduate and assistant men's and women's golf coach finished only three strokes behind the individual winner Harold Varner of East Carolina and Gastonia, N.C., who carded the day's low round of 66, -6 under par, to finish the tournament with a total score of 274, -14 under par.
Gardner-Webb 2011 men's golf signee Matt Yelverton recorded a final round of 73, +1 over par, on Sunday to finish in a tie for 24th-place overall with a tournament score of 284, -4 under par.
The North Carolina Amateur Championship is one of 35 conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, which was founded in 1909.
